The Pursuit of the “Perfect” Classic Stride

Whether you are a weekend warrior hungry for a few kilometers or an elite racer at the highest levels, chances are your classic technique needs work. How do I know? Have you ever slipped on your classic skis? Poor technique is more often than not the cause for slippery skis.
We all love to give the excuse, “I had bad wax” but the truth is skiers with better classic technique slip less and go faster because they understand the fundamentals of classic skiing.
There is not a set right and wrong way to classic ski because terrain dictates what style and tempo you should use but, there are several principals which should always be kept in mind.
Before we delve into the technical aspects of classic skiing remember one thing, classic skiing is about moving down the tracks as fast as possible. Often times, people will try and do too much technically and forget about the basic goal of simply gliding down the tracks.
Every thought about classic technique should start and end in the same spot, the core. The core and hips are the literal “heart” of classic technique.
